Then I stopped writing and learned how to write.
A few weeks ago, I mentioned on my personal journal that I might start a series of writing tips, and I received some positive response to the idea. I do A LOT of reading on the subject because I know I still have so much to learn. While I’ll never call myself a writing teacher or a great writer, I would like to share some of the things I’ve learned in my own studies.
In other words, I’m not trying to tell anyone how to write because I think I’m a good writer. I’m just another student, who is sharing her notes on the subject. I know there are many other people out there like me, who are always looking for an opportunity to learn or who just need to be reminded of the basics every now and then.
I will post these tips on my personal journal,
Some of the things I plan to cover:
1. How to overcome writer’s block
2. How to write vividly without abusing adverbs and adjectives
3. Grammar and punctuation guidelines
4. Why reading is more important than writing
5. The true purpose of a rough draft
6. How to create interesting characters
7. Editing Checklists
8. The vital components of a scene
9. Active versus passive voice
10. Et cetera, et cetera, you get the point
Some tips may be quick -- others may delve deep into the subject. I don’t have a schedule for posting these, but I should have the first part of the series up later today.
Please, please let me know if there’s something you’d like for me to discuss!!
